The mission of KEFiM is to increase the influence and support for policies that promote individual freedom.

A Think Tank
In the tradition of F.A. Hayek and Anthony Fisher, we believe that the most important factor for change is the climate of ideas in our country. Therefore, through our work we will strive to increase the demand for ideas that promote individual freedom, free markets, and the
Markos Dragoumis, whose name we proudly carry, was one of the most important Greek champions of liberty of the 20th century. Dragoumis began his intellectual journey with marxism, then joined the struggle against the dictatorship in Greece during the 1970s, and found his home in the ideas of liberty shortly after. A prolific author, Dragoumis published numerous articles, studies, and books on economics, politics, and history.
It’s been six years since the Greek debt crisis started and the first bailout agreement. We can now safely state the Greek public missed the opportunity to learn from its mistakes and identify the roots of its crisis as well as the solutions that could end it. It is evident that the time has finally come to identify the root cause of Greece’s crisis and establish solutions that could end it.
The current political class must develop and implement the necessary structural reforms and institutional frameworks necessary for Greece to be liberated from the bonds of statism, cronyism, and clientelism. These fundamental societal problems stem from the disappointing quality of political discourse over the past years, and on the fact that politicians are bound to the prevailing ideas of the misled electorate for fear of the associated political cost.
After years of inactivity, Greek liberals believe that now is the time to act and set forth a policy agenda to reverse the never ending cycle of crises in their country. Their goal is to make a convincing case to the Greek public that the future of Greece needs to be based on three pillars; free enterprise, the rule of law, and individual freedom.
After eight years of an unprecedented economic crisis, we all realized that public and political debate lacked an independent, evidence based, and non-partisan voice that could offer realistic policy alternatives to the constantly increasing tax hikes, indiscriminate spending cuts, and the sudden erosion of civil liberties. This is the role that KEFiM wishes to fulfill as it proudly stands on the shoulders of intellectual giants who fought for these same reasons in the past.
