Every activity of KEFiM is focused on increasing the individual and economic freedom of Greeks through the promotion of liberal ideas and policy proposals. In this regard, KEFiM’s programing for 2018 will be based on the following 4 pillars:
1. Influence Policy Making
After almost a decade of an economic and social crisis, the adoption of liberal policies is the only solution for Greece and its citizens. With KEFiM’s most ambitious project till now calledGreece 2021 – An Agenda for Freedom and Prosperity, we are preparing a roadmap for liberal reforms that our country so desperately needs. More specifically, in cooperation with prominent scholars, academics and policy makers, KEFiM will be proposing specific and cost effective proposals for every aspect of the public life. This will be done taking into account the results on Greece’s economic development and its ranking in International indicators. Up until September 2018, KEFiM will propose a full body of reform proposals to policy makers, the media and the public. We will also continue with successful actions such as the Annual Conference on the Evaluation of Economic Freedom and enrich the latter with new initiatives, just like we did with the proposed Law on the Decentralization of the Primary and Secondary Education System which we presented in 2017.
2. Protecting Civil Liberties:
As a liberal institution, KEFiM does not “discriminate” between economic and civil freedoms. Despite Greece’s decent rankings on civil liberties, our country faces serious threats to freedom of expression and the rule of law. Our goal is to address these challenges through legal activism and targeted outreach.
3. Addressing Economic Illiteracy
One of the main challenges that our ideas are facing in Greece is caused by the deep and penetrating effects of financial and economic illiteracy. Last year KEFiM achieved a record in selling new books, whereas our Tax Freedom Day was covered by the major new broadcasting channels to the point that it reached the Greek Parliament. Additionally, one of our favorite projects learnliberty.gr continues to inform the public through one meme a day and one video per week. On the other hand, the news website liberal.gr hosts every day a translated article from one of our global partners. This year we will continue more dynamically by enriching our activities such as setting up a book club as well as the beginning of a cooperation which will bring a lot of discussion in Greece.
4. Building the Liberty Movement
The friends of liberty in Greece are our big family. Our constant events and the first Promitheus awards are just a few reasons for everyone to get together, discuss new ideas, proposals and coordinate our activities. More importantly, this year we will increase our initiatives to bring Greek liberals closer through the launch of a Liberal academy which will bring in touch young people with the most prominent liberal think tanks and liberal activists around the world.
